"A Quid Pro Quo Mystery" in The New Yorker
Recently, a young man in a class I was teaching informed me that I was one of thirty-three writers who had signed a letter to the editor of the Times clarifying the meaning of “quid pro quo” and protesting its use as a synonym for criminality in the impeachment hearings. I did not remember signing the letter, but I wished I had.
